Malibu Creek State Park Hike

Jeff Bates’s and Gail Wise’s February 4 hike in Malibu Creek State Park took place on a beautiful and sunny day.

The original plan was to hike from Reagan Ranch to the M*A*S*H site and return, a round-trip distance of about four miles.  However, due to recent rainfall, there was high water in Malibu Creek.  This prevented crossing the creek and going to the M*A*S*H site.  There was a makeshift and highly questionable “bridge” of tree branches crossing the creek, but we wisely elected not to try using this “bridge.”  Instead, we went to Century Lake.

Along the way, we saw a placard with information about the construction of “Ape City,” one of the sites used for the filming of Beyond the Planet of the Apes in 1969.

Twelve people showed up and enjoyed this easy hike.
