We went on our more-or-less regular route wandering over and around Signal Hill. We stopped at Hilltop Park and also stopped at the new Heritage Point Park at Cherry Avenue and Burnett Street. This new park looks like it will be a nice spot to wander over from the new shopping area planned to be built on the adjacent block.
The odd feature of Heritage Point Park is that most of the flat area of the park, next to the highest point of Cherry Avenue, appears to be intended as a settlement basin. You might imagine that a relatively flat park would be designed for people to run around or sit on grass, but you can’t really walk or sit on the rocky surface of the settlement basin. Also, you’d think that a settlement basin designed to let rainwater runoff soak into the ground would be at a low point where rainwater would run off into it. But this settlement basin is located on top of a ridge. It is not clear why it’s like this.
Now that we are in the daylight saving months we have light into the evening and can take some of the smaller paths around Signal Hill and find some other surprises.
