Catching Up with Ms. Dragon

Who has decades of history with GLS without going on hikes?

By Jeff Johnson

When I heard about the Eaton Fire burning through Altadena in January 2025, I thought first of Debbie Collins. Debbie’s business in Altadena, Ms. Dragon Print and Copy, started printing the GLS newsletter TRACKS practically at the beginning of GLS in the 1980s. She continued printing it through 2023 when GLS stopped producing a printed newsletter. Before the internet, printed newsletters were how people kept up with groups like GLS and knew about our scheduled outings. At one point, Debbie was sending out over 500 issues of TRACKS to paid GLS subscribers every two months.

It turned out that the Eaton Fire burned all around Debbie’s building on Mariposa off Lake Ave. but her building did not burn. After the fire, she had to close for a while but was soon open again and is still open now. The neighborhood sure looks different but Ms. Dragon Print and Copy looks the same, except for newer printers, and Debbie is in the store and as friendly as ever.
